Can you believe it’s almost been a year since everything transitioned to remote? These last few weeks and months have had a fair share of ups and downs, but the one lesson I’ve learned is that I really thrive off a good morning routine. These days since it seems like we’re juggling more than ever while also having less boundaries than ever with work from home and virtual school changes. My mornings have quickly become one of my most cherished times to myself and as a result, this routine has really helped me get into a productive mindset!

1. WAKE UP EARLY
I’m a night owl at heart, but I’ve been working on getting my body to adjust to earlier mornings. At the beginning of 2021, I was actually consistently getting up before 6am, but lately it’s started slipping back to the 7:00am hour. But here’s to getting back on the wagon for an earlier bedtime and as a result, an earlier wakeup time. I love the mental clarity that I have first thing in the morning. I also make it a point to stay off my email and social media first thing so that I can keep from getting into a reactive mindset!
2. MAKE THE BED
I was never consistent with making the bed pre-quarantine, but now that I’m at home all day, I actually hate walking into the bedroom and seeing the bed looking like a mess. It only takes me a couple minutes to straighten out the duvet and re-situate the pillows, and I genuinely feel so much better when it’s done. Plus, given that I do a lot of photography as an influencer, I love that the bedroom is basically always Instagram ready!
3. GET DRESSED
I make it a point to change out of my pajamas everyday and into day clothes. It’s not always a cute outfit but just the act of getting dressed helps me get my mind into work mode.
4. MORNING SKINCARE
My morning skincare routine is my favorite “me time” moment and something I never skip. I have a pretty solid 7-step routine that starts with facial rolling and ends in sunscreen. I don’t really put on much makeup these days while working from home, but false eyelashes for me are a must as they open up my eyes and help me feel more ready to show my face on Zoom!
5. HYDRATE AND SUPPLEMENT
I’m working on making sure I get enough water in for the day so I start off with a large glass of chilled water with a few drops of lemon juice. I more or less end up guzzling down this water and make sure I get my vitamins in at the same time.
6. MAKE A NESPRESSO COFFEE
Finally for my favorite part of the morning, making my Nespresso coffee! I’ve had my Nespresso machine for over 10 years and it’s the only way I drink my coffee these days. Not only do the capsules make it super easy to make a single-serve coffee in under 3 minutes, but the resulting coffee is legit as good, if not better, than something I would buy from a coffee shop!
And do you see that beautiful “crema” froth at the top of the brewed coffee? Omg, yum. I live for that crema, and I swear it is the icing on top when it comes to enjoying my Nespresso coffee. The crema at the top is actually a unique result of the way the Nespresso machine extracts the coffee under pressure and pushes the oils from the coffee beans to create that foam.
The variety of Nespresso coffee capsules also means that I never get bored with my morning coffee. My current go-to favorite flavor is Elvazio, a light roast that has fruity notes and is absolutely delicious. If I’m in the mood for something a bit more bold, my pick is Odacio — it’s especially delicious with some frothed milk as it really brings out the sweet notes and makes it feel like an absolute treat! Nespresso also frequently comes out with seasonal coffee varieties, making it fun to change up and try new flavors throughout the year.
7. TACKLE MY HARDEST TASK FIRST
Now it’s go time! I go into the office space of my house and start with a quick scroll through my emails to see if there is anything urgent that needs to be addressed immediately. If not, then I actually prefer to close out of my email and start working on the hardest task that I need to complete for the day. I know that if I don’t take care of my more challenging tasks early on, it becomes easier for me to procrastinate and ultimately end up not working efficiently or effectively. In the 30-45 minutes of time that I have before my 9:30am morning standup meeting with my team, I usually try to make a bit of progress for the day and I find that it just helps me set a good work pace for the day!
Over the past year, my morning routine has become even more important to me. Having a sense of routine and structure has been essential for me as it seems like there has been so much out of our control. I love that my routine gives me space to show up for the day for myself. That first sip of Nespresso coffee is definitely something that I look forward to every morning and it gives me that mini indulgent moment that I can’t imagine my day without!
